On Friday morning, there was a semi truck crash on Interstate 240 near downtown Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened near Mile Marker Three, sometime around 2:45 a.m. Very few details about this tractor trailer crash have been released, but we do know that the large commercial truck overturned near Jackson’s curve by Jackson’s Western Store on Patton Avenue. A portion of the roadway had to be closed until about 10:00 a.m. Initial reports indicate that the truck was hauling 2-ethylhexyl phthalate, which is a chemical used to make plastics.

First responders diverted traffic onto Patton Avenue as crews worked the scene. Morning commuters had to deal with delays in the area until well into the morning. Thankfully, none of the chemicals were spilled onto the road during the crash. Additionally, no injuries were reported on the scene. There has been no word on why the truck overturned or what happened prior to the crash. The crash is likely still under investigation, and the truck driver may be facing citations.

After a Truck Accident

Commercial trucking agencies and truck drivers have additional federal safety rules and regulations to follow. Cases involving semi trucks often require much more complicated and lengthy investigations. Issues like hours of service violations, improper loading, missing or inadequate under ride bars and inadequate maintenance are all potential violations of federal safety regulations that are designed to keep roadways safe. It’s important to find out exactly what caused a truck crash to determine if and how it could have been prevented.
