The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a press release about the recall of Polaris Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs) due to a safety hazard. According to the CPSC, 2016 Polaris RZR XP Turbo and RZR XP 4 Turbo ROVs are being recalled because of a potential fire hazard. The CPSC is warning consumers that these ROVs could cause severe burn injuries if they’re not fixed. Consumers are urged to stop using the ROVs immediately and contact Polaris to schedule a free repair.
Polaris ROV Fire Hazard
Currently, the CPSC has received 19 reports of these ROVs catching fire. At least six people have suffered from burn injuries as a result of the defective turbo system. An incident in Utah’s American Fork Canyon led to the severe burn injury of a child and nearly 15 acres of destroyed forestland.

Polaris Recall Details
At this time, about 13,000 ROVs (including 2,230 previously recalled models) are being impacted by this recall. In these particular Polaris models, the engine can overheat and the turbo system’s drain tube can loosen, which poses a fire hazard to drivers and riders. These two and four-seat ROVs came in blue, gray, orange and red and have “RZR” printed on the rear box, as well as having “Turbo” printed on the hood.
Defective ATVs and ROVs
All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and ROVs are popular in Asheville and throughout Western North Carolina. While these vehicles can be both fun and functional, drivers and riders are reminded to take all possible safety precautions and follow manufacturers’ instructions. If you were injured due to a fire on a Polaris RZR XP Turbo or 4 Turbo, you need to get in touch with an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible. It can take months or longer for many recalls and investigations to get initiated, so if you suspect a manufacturing or design defect caused your injury, you need to let your lawyer know immediately.
