Motor Carrier Safety Across the U.S.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA’s) primary mission is to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. Since semi trucks and tractor trailers can weigh in excess of five tons, safe driving and management practices are top priorities for the FMCSA. In addition to regulations about driver fitness, hours of service and safe cargo handling, there are also regulations regarding the use of hand-held mobile phones while operating certain commercial vehicles. The FMCSA’s website has a variety of safety resources for consumers too.

After a Truck Accident
Cases involving commercial trucks are much more complicated than traditional automobile accidents. After an accident involving a big rig, it’s important to speak with an experienced truck accident lawyer as soon as possible. Since commercial trucking companies and drivers have to adhere to a variety of federal trucking laws and regulations, it is often necessary to conduct an additional accident investigation. Federal trucking laws were put in place to keep roadway users safe. Semi trucks are so much larger and heavier than traditional passenger vehicles, so it’s absolutely critical that trucking companies and commercial drivers play by the rules.
