On Tuesday afternoon, an overturned 18-wheeler had traffic backed up in Polk County. The incident happened on I-26 near the Saluda exit (exit 59). According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the big rig was hauling water when it blew a tire. Apparently, the rig struck the overpass and then overturned. First responders were swiftly on the scene, where at least one person was trapped by the wreckage. Crews also had to deal with a fuel spill. One person was taken to Pardee Hospital.
Traffic Backed up in Polk County
All westbound lanes had to be closed for first responders and cleanup crews. Traffic was diverted onto Highway 176 through Saluda. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), all lanes were expected to be open again by about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. There’s no information on the extent of injuries involved or the victim’s current condition. Very little information has been released about this crash, which is likely still under investigation with authorities.
