On Monday, 21-year-old Leah Worley’s car wound up in a ditch off of US 276. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, Worley was on her way to school when she hit a patch of black ice. Unable to keep her car on the roadway, the automobile flipped into a ditch. A witness saw the wreck and dialed 911.

With the assistance of first-responders on the scene, she was able to exit the overturned car. She was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Workers with the NCDOT were on the scene after the wreck, shoring-up the area where creek water seeped onto the roadway. Motorists are encouraged to practice safe winter-weather driving habits with the recent precipitation and below-freezing temperatures.
