On Monday afternoon, a motorcyclist was severely injured in a McDowell County crash. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened at about 4:00 p.m. on NC-226 near Dairy Road. Very few details about this crash have been released, but we do know that Traviss Kendall Waldrop of Nebo was headed north on 226 when his motorcycle left the roadway. The bike overturned and struck a tree.

Motorcyclist Airlifted to Mission Hospital

First responders rushed to the scene, and Waldrop was airlifted to Mission Hospital in critical condition for the treatment of a head injury and possibly other injuries. This was an apparent one-vehicle wreck, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. A portion of the roadway was closed until after 6:00 p.m. as first responders and crews worked the scene.

Share The Road

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Share the Road” campaign is aimed at raising awareness about the dangers motorcycle riders and other roadway users face. The most important aspect of sharing the road is making a commitment to distraction-free driving. If drivers are distracted, they’re not looking out for riders, pedestrians, cyclist or other drivers. Improving motorcycle rider safety starts with ensuring all drivers and riders are safely sharing the road with one another.
