Last week, there was an injury crash involving a moped in Haywood County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Richland Creek Road, near Crabtree Road/ N.C. Highway 209 on Friday night. Very few details about this crash have been released, but we do know that a 2003 Ford Ranger was turning off of Crabtree Road when it struck a moped. Initial reports indicate that the two moped riders were thrown from the vehicle. Neither of the riders was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Moped Riders Injured in Haywood County Crash

One of the riders reportedly hit a road sign and sustained a serious leg injury. The other rider was also injured in the crash. The Ford Ranger did sustain some damage. No other injuries were reported with this crash. There has been no word on the full extent of injuries involving the moped riders. At this time, no charges have been made, but the cause of this crash is likely still under investigation with local law enforcement officials.

  • Only two percent of people treated at a major trauma unit in 2018 were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
