Law enforcement officers are still investigating the hit-and-run crash that critically injured a pedestrian on Sunday morning. The incident happened in Fletcher, on Souther Road in the Hoopers Creek area. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, Brian Capps was struck and dragged by a vehicle, after leaving a party on foot. Thankfully, his friends went out looking for him. He was swiftly transported to Mission Hospital and is in an intensive care unit.

Had his friends not thought to go looking for him, he could have died on the scene. The father of three isn’t out of the woods yet, and the community is calling on the hit-and-run driver to come forward. Officials with the North Carolina Highway Patrol are still investigating this terrible wreck. There is currently no information on the extent of Capps’ injuries.

Asheville Pedestrian Accidents
This isn’t the first pedestrian crash we’ve seen this summer. Just a few weeks ago, a pedestrian was struck and killed on Kimberly Avenue. Before that, a child was struck on Highway 70. With more pedestrians and cyclists sharing the road during the warm summer months, drivers need to recognize that “Everyone is a Pedestrian.” This mindset can help drivers to be more safety conscious and proactive behind the wheel.

Danger for Pedestrians

In 2012, 4,743 pedestrians were pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes. Sadly, pedestrians are one of the few roadway-user groups who continue to see an increase in fatalities and injuries each year. This disturbing news has been linked with issues like distracted and impaired driving. If drivers are impaired or not paying attention to the road, they’re likely to strike pedestrians, cyclists or other roadway users.

What to do After an Accident

If you or a loved one has been injured in a pedestrian or bicycle accident, you need to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible. Pedestrian accidents are complicated enough, without hit-and-run drivers on the loose, so it’s important to have a skilled lawyer on your side. The team at Davis Law Group, P.A. wishes Brian Capps a full and speedy recovery from his injuries.
