Over the weekend, a vehicle fatally struck a Morganton volunteer firefighter while he was cleaning up storm debris. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, 40-year-old Jason Keith Hensley was beside Highway 70 cleaning up debris associated with Tropical Storm Nate when a truck hit him. Initial reports indicate that he was wearing reflective gear and had his vehicle’s emergency lights on at the time of the crash.

Although first responders rushed to the scene, Hensley did not survive his injuries. The driver involved, 58-year-old Randall Stewart, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired. He is also facing other traffic and drug-related charges. The team at Davis Law Group, P.A. sends their deepest condolences to Hensley’s family members, friends and loved ones.
