On Monday morning, there was a fatal crash involving a semi truck on Airport Road in Fletcher. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened near Rockwood and I-26. Apparently, an SUV was trying to make a left onto Rockwood from Airport Road at the same time a semi truck was coming from I-26. The large truck reportedly went straight, and the SUV was in its path. The two vehicles collided, and 84-year-old Jo Williams Conner of Rutherfordton was killed in the crash.

Fatal Semi Crash at I-26

Conner’s husband, who was driving the SUV, was transported to Park Ridge Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Although very few details about this fatal crash have been released, we do know that law enforcement officials are looking into whether or not the construction area around I-26 was a factor in this wreck. At this time, no charges have been made, and the fatal crash remains under investigation with local authorities.

Crashes at I-26 Bridge Construction Area

Last week, we reported on the increase in crashes around the I-26 bridge construction area. Motorists and concerned citizens in the area are calling on officials to improve the safety in this area. A variety of crashes have happened in and around the I-26 bridge construction area, and there are even open records requests that show the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has been asking the contractor to fix the area for months. Faded lines on the roadway need repainting, and there is also a concern about the lack of safety areas beside barriers.

Semi Truck Crashes in Asheville

Since there was a semi truck involved in this fatal crash, the investigation could be open for an extended period of time. Commercial vehicles have additional rules and regulations to follow, so cases involving 18-wheelers can be lengthy and complex. If you’ve been injured in an accident involving a tractor-trailer, it’s important to speak with a lawyer who has proven truck accident case experience as soon as possible.

The team at Davis Law Group, P.A. sends their deepest condolences to Jo Williams Conner’s family members and friends and wishes her husband a full and swift recovery from his injuries.
