Pedestrians: A Vulnerable Roadway User Group

Pedestrians, along with cyclists, are one of the most vulnerable roadway users groups on U.S. roadways. They don’t have the protection of seat belts and airbags or even helmets, and they’re at the mercy of the drivers around them. Even with high-visibility clothing and reflective gear, a pedestrian can still be struck and injured or killed. Behaviors like distracted and impaired driving endanger the lives of pedestrians and all other types of roadway users.
