On Friday morning, there was a fatal crash in a Candler neighborhood. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened at the intersection for Monte Vista, Edgewood and Holbrook Roads. Initial reports indicate that one of the drivers involved in the crash did not stop at the stop sign. That vehicle slammed into another car and then hit a minivan. There were two small children in the minivan at the time of the crash. Thankfully, they were in car seats. At least four people, including the two children, were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. A driver involved in the crash, 29-year-old James Nicholas Crowder, was killed in the wreck.
Concern About a Dangerous Candler Intersection
Sadly, residents and community members in the area are not surprised by what happened. Many people have been calling on the need for a traffic light at this particular intersection for a long time. On Monday, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) responded to the complaints about the dangerous intersection. They’re currently reviewing the safety of the intersection to determine if any changes can be made. The review could take a few weeks, and this is apparently not the first time this particular intersection has been reviewed by the NCDOT. They looked at the intersection in 2013, but said that at the time, there wasn’t a need for a traffic light.
