Residents in a West Asheville neighborhood are calling on officials to do something about a dangerous stretch of roadway. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, Sand Hills School Road has become a popular cut-through to avoid traffic from I-40 to I-26. Collisions, including hit-and-runs, have been increasing on this residential roadway. Many of these wrecks go unreported after a driver takes out a mailbox or a trashcan. They simply just keep driving. Drivers are speeding around this narrow road and have hit power poles, concrete walls, mailboxes, trashcans and even family pets. The speed limit is 35 miles per hour, but witnesses report some cars going through at closer to 50 or 60 miles per hour. A portion of the roadway is even in a school zone.
Speeding in West Asheville
Speeding has become the number one problem on this particular roadway. Residents continually have to replace their mailboxes and pick up their trashcans. There are also reports of cars sliding through stop signs. Parents are concerned about their children getting on and off of the bus. Although many drivers flee the scene too fast for witnesses to get information, officials with the Asheville Police Department are encouraging citizens to get license plate numbers, if they can. Local residents are hoping to get speed bumps or a stoplight in the area to slow down the speedy traffic.
Hit and Run Crashes
Fewer things are as stressful as the aftermath of a hit-and-run accident. You could be in the hospital, out of work, without a car for who knows how long and wondering who is going to pay the bills. Maybe, you got a description and license plate number for the vehicle. Maybe, you didn’t. After your initial police report, it’s a good idea to speak with an attorney about your options. Your attorney can stay on top of official investigative details, and help you deal with your insurance company.
