On Monday, a crane accident on U.S. 276 in Haywood County sent one person to the hospital. The incident happened just before 1:00 p.m. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the northbound lane of the roadway was closed for 12 hours. Apparently, the 125,000 lb crane went over an embankment at the top of the mountain. First responders were swiftly on the scene.

The crane was allegedly travelling from South Carolina to Robbinsville, North Carolina at the time of the crash. The driver was taken to Mission Hospital for treatment of injuries. There’s no word on the victim’s current condition, but the injuries were initially described as non life-threatening. Traffic was diverted for hours, as crews worked the scene.
