FMCSA on Commercial Truck Safety
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is the organization tasked with regulating the commercial trucking industry. Because commercial trucking vehicles are so much larger and heavier than traditional passenger occupant cars and light trucks, there are additional rules and regulations associated with the industry. These regulations involve how long drivers can be behind the wheel, how cargo is loaded, how often tires and mechanical parts are maintained and a variety of other issues that are critically important for keep roadways safe.
Crashes Involving Big Rigs
When cars, vans, SUVs and light trucks are involved in crashes with semi trucks, the results are often devastating for the occupants of smaller vehicles. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, about one in 10 highway deaths occur in crashes involving large trucks. Since there are additional safety regulations associated with the commercial trucking industry, these crash investigations can take much longer than investigations involving only traditional passenger occupant vehicles.
