According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the City of Asheville has just instituted a new safety pilot program for pedestrians. At this time, pedestrians using the crosswalk at Edwin and Katherine Places can utilize the new safety equipment. On either side of the street, there are flags available to pedestrians to carry while crossing the street. The flags are bright yellow and have reflective tape.

These flags are intended to increase the visibility of pedestrians who are crossing the busy roadway. Keep an eye out for these flags popping up at other intersections across Asheville. Ultimately, pedestrians are counting on drivers to stay alert and share the road.
