Last week, there was a fatal crash on Rock Hill Road in South Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened near Busbee View Road at about 5:00 a.m. Initial reports indicate that an Acura automobile was headed north at a high rate of speed when it entered a curve and ran off of the roadway. The vehicle hit a boulder and flipped over. Two of occupants were not buckled up at the time of the crash, and they were both ejected. One person was killed in this crash, and two others were transported to local hospitals for treatment of injuries. Although this crash remains under investigation, alcohol is suspected to have been a factor.

National Anti-Drunk Driving Campaigns

Sadly, this fatal crash happened just after a widely publicized nationwide anti-drunk driving campaign. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), along with many other public safety and law enforcement agencies across the United States, recently participated in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which is aimed at raising awareness about the dangers and costs associated with drunk driving. Law enforcement agencies in Asheville and all over North Carolina also recently participated by taking part in the Labor Day weekend Maximum Enforcement Period.
